The need is still great. Minnesota’s reading outcomes are alarming. Results of the most recent Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment indicate only 33.9% of students met or exceeded grade-level standards in reading. Third-grade reading skills are a critical benchmark for a student’s future success.
For over 20 years East Side Learning Center (ESLC) has been a leader in literacy tutoring for students in grades K-3, devoting its resources and program to helping each generation of Minnesota students become stronger readers. Our program is thriving thanks to the volunteer literacy tutors who provide children with the best practices of the Science of Reading.
