Early Learning

We will launch a new program for preschoolers during the summer, focusing on pre-literacy skills. Parents and children will come together to build foundation literacy skills. This program will provide children with exposure to language through active literacy activities, such as reading, talking, singing, and other activities. We expect that through engagement at a young age, children will achieve higher academic success once they enter school. We expect children to develop stronger oral and written skills, better grammar, and enhanced vocabulary.  Each meeting time will focus on defined letters/sounds of the English alphabet.  Engaging activities that are short in duration help children with alpha letters/sounds. ESLC’s alphabet sequence will be used since it starts with the least confusing letter shapes/sounds.  Alphabet activities will include sensory writing to practice making the letter – playdough, simple dot-to-dot, sand tray writing, and whiteboard activity for each letter.  An appropriate story will be read to focus on listening skills, with additional attention to recall and sequencing. A song with movement will be incorporated into each session.  Songs use rhyme, tell a simple story, and engage multiple ways of learning. After each session, parents will receive suggestions for ways to carry on the learning at home.
